Interview with ‘Mike Jones’

Who was your main influence when growing up?

My main influence when growing up was the Arctic monkeys, I loved there stage presents and their sense of style. I also love the way they direct their songs to every day issues.

In 5 years time, where would you like to see yourself?

In 5 years time I hope to have finished university and have a better instead of what music is. I would also love for me to be signed by a music company and be setting tour dates. I would also like to be writing music.

What was the first gig you went to?

The first gig I went to was Arctic Monkeys, who inspired me to play the style of music I play.

What has been your most inspiring moment so far?

I have had many inspiring moments when playing music, one of these would be my first gig I, expecting only about 50, and a turnout of over 100 family of friends turned up.

Look out for the brand new artist ‘Mike Jones’

To mark the first edition of ‘Pulse’ we got the chance to interview the new upcoming artist Mike Jones.  After winning Most Popular Unsigned Artist of the Year 2011, at Sheffield university, and selling over 500 gig tickets Mike Jones feels as if he’s moving up in the music industry.
Merseyside is known for its extravagant football and wonderful waterfront but the one thing that needs an update is the music, Liverpool has always been known for the world famous 60’s band ‘The Beatles’ and how they recreated music but we think there needs to be a new face to music..
Mike Jones first got into music when he was 14 years old, after studying it in school, ‘I have always loved music, but when I discovered how to play and write music I knew it’s what I wanted to do’. Mike got the opportunity to play in his school talent show, and went on to win the show. After the talent show Mike regularly rehearsed and realised his first gig in April 2008, over 100 family and friends turned up, and he’d only expected fewer than 50 people!
When Mike was growing up his biggest influence was The Arctic Monkeys, he loved their stage presence and the style of their music. It is true to say that his style is influenced by the Arctic Monkeys, and he follows them on twitter to keep updated with their everyday life.
Having been named ‘Most Popular Unsigned Artist of 2011’ mike has many more plans ahead. In the next 5 years he hopes he will have a signed contract, and be in the middle of creating a new album, setting tour dates. The one thing that he dreams of doing is being an International artist like his inspiration The Arctic Monkeys.
Mike has now gone on to university to study music and performs in local venues to support his love of music. He hopes to go on to have a career in music. Since Mike has publically been a solo artist he has had lot of attention from music lovers and fans. After Mike’s friends made a Facebook group they collected over 3000 fans to help him publicise his local gigs. Mikes is planning to play in the local festival ‘Chester Rocks’ next year with the expected turn out to been 15,000, playing next to artists such as The Saturdays, Sugarbabes, Tiao Cruiz, Mcfly, The Wanted and many more well known bands as well as local unsigned bands.
If you like the sound of the new artist how about getting to know him more, and supporting a local musician by following him on twitter or facebook at @Mike Jones.

Front cover image:
I am having one image on my front cover, this is because I want my audience to focus on my main image. My main image is going to be of a solo artist, I want my image to give direct contact to the audience as my magazine is for local unsigned bands meaning people will not  know who my artist’s are. I also want my image to have different meaning, making my audience think about the image and the artists background.

Publication Plan

Publication plan

Title: Pulse
Positioning statement: At the heart of indie
Frequency of publications: Mounthly
Price: £2.90
Distribution: Newsagents and supermarket; Gigs and concerts.
Rationale(reason for existence): I have chosen to create a indie magazine that revolves around the local area, as I think there is a gap in the market for this. My magazine is going to give review and interviews of local signed and unsigned bands that are in the Merseyside area . I will use informal language and short sentences to satisfy the target audience being teenagers to mid 30s.
Style: The style of my magazine is going to be informal as my target range is teenagers to mid 30s people. I will also use humour to attract my audience and I will be using people views on previous gigs/concerts. There will be a use of simple vocabulary, short sentences and a use of slang.
